Dear Bell Parents,
On March 24th, after the LSC Candidate’s Forum, I presented an overview of the CPS Budget for 2010-2011, based on a presentation to principals included below. Obviously, there is great concern over a potential $1 Billion deficit. Thanks to recent pension reform in Springfield, that number was decreased by $400 million. Don't be fooled; there are still painful cuts coming our way. Use this website created by CPS parents to contact your elected officials to demand that the State of Illinois meets its responsibilities.
On a local level, the following changes may occur at Bell:
Extended Kindergarten eliminated (half day program in its place)
Class Size of 37 across the board
Reduction in library/P.E. positions
Elimination of computer teacher position
Reduction in office support
Elimination of athletic programs
Elimination of the gifted coordinator position
Reduction in special education support
I am still awaiting the release of Bell's budget, which has been
delayed for weeks while CPS weighs these difficult decisions. As soon
as I have the preliminary figures, I will prepare a budget for the LSC
to discuss, amend, and approve. Let me assure you that we will try to
maintain the outstanding programs that are part of the fabric of Bell.
I am urging you to get involved NOW! In addition to the link above,
there are a variety of ways to reach out to elected officials locally
and in Springfield to try to get your voice heard.
Submit your feedback directly to Springfield. The website features sections where you can submit feedback directly to the Illinois Governor’s Office of Management and Budget.
