Wednesday, May 22

  • Congratulations to the 7th/8th boys softball team who won the network championship.  Both boys' teams will hopefully play in the city playoffs later today.
  • Congratulations to the fourth grade for winning the Change for Change penny wars.  Bell School raised over $2,100 for the 8th grade Live Well Project.

 

Monday, May 20th

  • Congratulations to Rooms 112 and 316 for earning classroom celebrations this week.
  • The girls 7/8 soccer team lost to Hawthorne in the playoffs.  Congratulations on a great season.
  • The boys softball teams are still in the city playoffs and will play on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

  • Congratulations to the 5/6 girls soccer team who played in the network championship yesterday.  Unfortunately, they lost to Waters in a sudden death shoot out.  Great season!

  • Congratulations to the girls softball team who won their first playoff game against Coonley.  The next playoff game is tonight.  Good luck!
  • The 5/6 girls defeated Rogers in their playoff game yesterday.  The play at Clarendon Park tonight for the network championship.
  • Thank you to all students and staff who donated to Bell's Change for Change fundraiser yesterday.  1st grade is in first place right now.  Teachers, please send down your change this morning.

  • Steppin is Tuesday, June 4th.  Forms will be going home today with the website and donation information.

  • There will be an FPS meeting this week for everyone to review state packets.  All international qualifiers must be present.
  • Congratulations to Bell's 7th/8th grade Battle of the Books team who won second place in the city finals.

  • Tickets are still available for Beauty and the Beast for Friday and Saturday.  Please turn in orders as soon as possible.
  • Choir is cancelled today.  Practices will resume next Thursday.
  • The 7th/8th grade Battle of the Books team will have a short meeting today at lunch in the library.
  • Cast and crew for Beauty and the Beast should arrive at 5 p.m. tonight.  Students should bring a book to read for backstage.
  • Softball season has started.  The girls team is now 2-0 after a win against Coonley yesterday.  The boys teams each won their games last night by scores of 22-0 and 23-11 against Clinton.

  • There will be choir today at lunch recess in the music room.
  • The girls soccer teams had a split against Blaine yesterday.  The 5/6 team won by a score of 3-2 and the 7/8 team lost by a score of 5-4.

  • Congratulations to both girls soccer teams as they defeated West Ridge by scores of 6-0 and 7-1.

  • Reminder that there are two soccer games today beginning at 4 pm for the girls soccer teams.  The games will take place at Wilson and the Lakefront.

Monday, April 15th

  • The girls soccer season kicks off today at the lakefront against Pierce School.  The 5th/6th game will begin at 4 p.m. and the 7th/8th game will immediately follow.  Players should be at the game 15 minutes prior to the start.  All players who do not have a jersey should dress in Bell spirit wear and have shin guards to play in the game.  Please see Ms. Girardini in Room 318 if you have any questions.
  • Tech rehearsals begin today at 12:30 p.m.  Students in rehearsals should bring all belongings with them to the auditorium.
  • Congratulations to our Future Problem Solvers for their performance at the state conference.  All teams did a wonderful job representing Bell School.

  • What does ephemeral mean?  What is a Pachkcha?  How tall is a 4 week old basil sprout?  Come make your own ephemeral art, enjoy the fun and interesting presentations known as Pechakcha,  and buy some herb seedlings for your garden.  All this and much more at Family Fine Arts and Green Night this Thursday, April 11th from 6-8 p.m.

 

Monday, April 8th

  • Congratulations to Bell student Albert L. who participated in UIC's first Trigraphathon.  He placed 3rd in the poetry section and 2nd in the short story section.
  • Track and Field conditioning will begin on Thursday, April 11th.  Please meet Ms. Presmyk and Ms. Abts outside of Room 119 after school.  Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:30 p.m.
  • Did you know that clay is dirt?  Come play with clay and watch worms turn dirt into nutritious soil for planting.  Try out Mr. Busse's pottery wheel and paint ceramic tiles with Ms. Pearmutter.  Learn about composting with Ms. Whiting.  All this and much more will be at Family Fine Arts and Green Night on Thursday, April 11th from 6-8 pm at Bell School.

Tuesday, March 17th

  • Beauty and the Beast lunch rehearsal will be with the castle leads at 12:30 outside of the computer lab and at 12:55 with the enchantress.
  • Congratulations to our Future Problem Solvers for their performance at the regional competition.  Our three rookie teams finished in 4th, 2nd and 1st place, and in the middle division, Bell had four teams who placed 6th, fifth, fourth and third.  All teams are advancing to the state competition being held in Bloomington, Normal on April 12th and 13th.  The topic will be Ocean Soup.
  • Congratulations to our 5th/6th girls basketball team for winning the city championship over Beasley.  The team finished the season with a perfect record of 26-0.

Friday, March 15th

  • Beauty and the Beast lunch rehearsals will be in the computer lab.  The following characters should report:  Belle, Lefou, Gaston, Silly Girls, and the Enchantress.
  • The Beauty and the Beast production team is enlisting the artistic talents of Bell's students to create logos for the StageBell cover, production t-shirt, tickets, show poster and DVD order form.  Logos should be submitted on white paper and drawn in black ink.  They are due by Friday, April 5th. 

 

Thursday, March 14th

  • Permission slips for the cheerleading bowling party are due in the main office today.
  • Beauty and the Beast lunch rehearsals will be with Lefou and Gaston today.  Please meet Ms. Newberry in the computer lab at 12:30 p.m.
  • In basketball news, the 4th grade boys won their first round playoff game, beating Rogers Park 24-12.  They were led by Connor M.  with 7 points, Max A. with 6 points and Jaden B. with 4 points.
  • In the final four semifinal game for CPS last night, the 5th/6th girls were matched up against Ella Flagg Young and came out victorious by a score of 20-16.  They will play for the city championship on Monday. 

 Wednesday, March 13th

  • Beauty and the Beast lunch rehearsal will be with Gaston and the silly girls today.  Please meet Ms. Newberry in the computer lab at 12:30.
  • Cheerleaders must bring in permission slips for the end of the year party by tomorrow. 

 

Tuesday, March 12th

  • Anyone interested in boys volleyball for the spring sports season should come to the auditorium on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. for a brief meeting.  If you cannot make the meeting, please see Coach Fair.
  • Beauty and the Beast lunch rehearsals begin today.  Belle and the Beast should meet Ms. Newberry at 12:30 p.m. outside room 312.
  • Last night the 5th and 6th grade girls basketball team took to the floor in the CPS elite eight against Alcott.  A stifling defense for the first twelve minutes led to a 11-2 halftime lead, and a delay offense paved the way to victory, 13-7.  On Wednesday, the girls face the challenge of playing two games in one night.  At 5:45 p.m. they will do battle in the CPS final four on the south side of town before returning to the north side to tip off in the NBL final four at 7:30 p.m.
  • Over the weekend, members of the Bell Stealth competed in the Illinois Scholastic State Chess Tournament, held in Normal, Illinois.  Our grades K-5 team finished in 9th place.  At the individuals level, fifth grader Jeremy M.  finished in 7th place.  Congrats to Jeremy, William S., Sam E., and Owen W. for a great effort in this two day state-wide event.

Thursday, March 7th

  • Please send the green Wish List forms home today.
  • Choir for 5th through 8th grade students will not take place today.  Choir will resume at the regularly scheduled time tomorrow.
  • In basketball news, the fifth grade boys took to the court against Alcott.  Daniel and William each scored 14 point leading Bell to the victory 38-18.  The fourth grade boys had their last game of the regular season against Bridgeport Academy.  The game went back and forth over the last few minutes until Bell was able to seal the win, 34-32 with two free throws.  Good luck to all NBL teams in the playoffs.

Monday, March 4th

  • There will be no conservation club meeting today after school.  The club will meet again next Monday.
  • Mr. Ortiga, ASL teacher, will not be here today.
  • Congratulations to Room 213 for earning a classroom celebration.
  • In basketball action over the weekend,  both 5th/6th grade teams had home games Friday night in CPS network semifinals to determine whether they would return to the court on Saturday in the finals.  The 5/6 girls took to the court first.  Overcoming a sluggish first half, Bell exploded after halftime beating Kilmer 16-7.  The 5/6 boys then went up against Disney.  Bell broke out to a 23-8 halftime lead and never looked back defeating the opponent 34-21.  On Saturday, the 5/6 girls looked to win their sixth consecutive network crown.  A close game against Hawthorne was broken wide open in the fourth quarter as Bell won the championship 22-6.  The girls  now move on to the city playoffs as they will play in the elite eight starting on Wednesday, March 13th.  The 5/6 boys looked to duplicate the feat accomplished by the girls.  Their defensive effort was fantastic, but they just could not get their shots to fall, losing to Hawthorne 19-9.  The boys had a tremendous season.  Congratulations to each and every member for the effort that was on display all year.  In Northside action, the 8th grade boys beat Hawthorne 34-32, and the 6th grade boys fell to Latin, 40-38.  In 3rd/4th grade girls' action, the red team, led by Ava, Adrian, Hanna, Matilda, and Maddie, defeated Hawthorne, 21-15.  Cori, Greta, Arysa, and Rose led the black team to a victory over the white team 22-10.

 

Friday, March 1st

  • Ms. Cooper, ESL teacher, will not be in today.
  • Yearbook orders are due today.
  • In basketball action, the 5/6 girls took flight early, leading the quarterfinal game from tip to the buzzer.  The 24-4 win was against a previously undefeated Field team.  Tonight the girls battle in the semifinals against Kilmer at Bell at 4:30 p.m.  The 5/6 boys had to take their quarterfinal fight on the road against McPherson.  That proved to be no obstacle for the squad as they upended the home team 38-19.  They boys have regained home court advantage and their talents will be on display at 5:30 against Disney.  The 7/8 girls ran into a very determined and aggressive team from Peirce.  The lead exchanged hands several times during the second half, but it was not to be for the Bell girls, falling, 24-18.  Congratulations to the squad on an excellent season.  The best of luck to the eighth graders.

Tuesday, February 26th

  • In CPS playoff action on Monday night, the 5th/6th boys faced off against the squad from Waters.  The boys jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the opponent, 38-9.  Tonight they travel to McPherson as they seek victory in the quarterfinal network round.   Missing two injured starters, the 7th/8th boys went up against the West Ridge team.  The game went into double overtime before the boys fell, 31-30.  Congratulations to Coach Fair and all the players for a rewarding season.  The 7th/8th girls were the third team in action last night.  They were matched up with the girls from Gale.  The Bell girls led the game 22-0 at halftime and eased into a 33-4 victory.  Tonight they will host Peirce in quarterfinal action at 5:30.  The 5th/6th girls, who received a first round bye, will begin playoff activity tonight as wll as they will meet Field in the quarterfinals here at home starting at 4:30 p.m.

 Monday, February 25th

  • Girls on the Run begins today.  All participants must meet Ms. Abts outside of Room 119 immediately after school.
  • Bell School Yearbook orders are due by Friday, March 1st.  If you need an order envelope, please see Mrs. O'Sullivan in the main office.
  • In NBL action last week, all three 3rd/4th girls teams were victorious.  The white team beat Waters on a last second shot by Avery, 15-14.  The black team defeated McPherson 20-9, behind the play of Cori, Greta, Rose, Norah and Arysa.  The red team led by Ava took care of Decatur 16-9.
  • On Saturday, members of the Bell Stealth competed in the CPS North Side Chess playoffs, held at Northwest Middle School.  Our K-2 team finished in third place, and our 5-6 team finished in first place.  Both teams will be going to the CPS city championships to held in March.  At the individuals level, 5th grader Jeremy M.  finished in first place in his division.

  • There will be a short meeting for all 5th-8th grade student council classroom representatives today during lunch recess.  The meeting will place at 12:30 in Room 313.

  • Congratulations to all FPSers.  All teams are state qualifiers.  Ms. Barron will have more information on Wednesday.
  • On Saturday, members of the Bell Stealth played ina Youth Chess Foundation Tournament held at Northside College Prep.  This was a very successful outing, as our Grades K-2 team finished second, our 3-4 team finished in first place, and our advanced team also finished in first place.  Students who received individual trophies included Will K., Alex U., Miles L., Payton K., and Sam Essex.
  • In third and fourth grade girls basketball news, the white team led by Stella, Averya and Maria defeated Lycee 9-6.  The black team with notable performances by Cori, Rose, Greta and Aryssa, beat Decatur 16-6.  Despite the play of Maddie, Ava, Hanna and Adrian, the red team lost a close one to Queen of Angels, 20-17.
  • In CPS action last week, the 7th/8th girls beat Agassiz 32-6.  The 5th/6th girls beat Coonley 34-9 and the 7th/8th girls beat Coonley 28-3.

Thursday, February 14th

  • Thank you Bell School for your overwhelming support of the 8th grade well project.  Unfortunately, there were so many orders that we need to order more supplies to fill every order.  Because of this, we need to postpone delivery of lollipops and smencils until next week.  That means a 2nd Valentine's Day for Bell School.  Thank you for your wonderful support of the Live Well Project.

  • 5th and 6th grade classes will be attending this morning's performance of Once Upon a Mattress at Lane Tech.  Classes should meet in the main office hallway at 9:00 a.m.  7th and 8th grade students will eat first this afternoon during their lunch period.

Friday, February 8th

  • In honor of the Chinese New Year, there will be two assemblies this afternoon featuring Chinese acrobats.  The first assembly for students in grades K-4 will take place at 12:15 p.m. and the second assembly for students in grades 5-8 will take place at 1:30 p.m.
  • All Future Problem Solvers competing in the Regional competition at Burley School on Saturday should meet Ms. Barron no later than 9:15 a.m. at Burley.  She will meet students at the door.
  • Beauty and the Beast is in need of musicians to perform along with the cast.  If you play a string instrument and are interested in performing for the production, please sign up on the clipboard outside of Ms. Abts room (119) during your lunch period.
  • Our 8th grade students are selling smencils and lollipops in celebration of Valentine's Day.  All proceeds will help support their effort to build a well in Ethiopia.

  • In basketball news, the 4th grade boys took third place in the Lisle Superbowl Shootout, beating the Waukegan Magic and scoring an overtime win against the Rockford Wildcats.
  • In other basketball news, the 3rd and 4th grade girls teams had several games over the past few days.  The red team led by Ava, Adrian and Hanna defeated Rogers Park, 24-14.  The black team led by Cori, Greta and Arysa defeated Waters, 14-0.  The white team lost to Queen of Angels, 22-8.   In other Northside action, the 5th/6th girls defeated Rogers Park 33-13, the 5th grade boys beat Daystar 20-19, the 8th grade boys lost to Latin 45-33 and the 6th grade boys beat Anshe Emet 35-21.

  • Last night the 4th grade boys basketball team handed Rogers Park Montessori their first loss of the season.  Max A. scored 8 points and Hank N. added 6 points.

Wednesday, January 30th

  • Crew sign up sheets for Beauty and the Beast were delivered to the 7th and 8th grade classes yesterday.  Please see Ms. Pepin today if you did not receive one and want to learn more about the crews.  Any 7th or 8th grader who has filled out the crew sheet and has parent permission should turn his/her form in by Thursday.
  • Any 4th-6th grader who has read some or all of the Battle of the Book titles is welcome to take the qualifying test to make the team.  The test will be given in the library immediately after school on Monday, February 4th.  You need a permission slip in order to stay after school.  See Ms. Aldrin in the library for more information and a permission slip.
  • In basketball news, both of the girls basketball teams played Coonley on Tuesday and won.  In the Northside Basketball League, the 5th/6th girls beat Rogers Park by a score of 33-13.
  • Thank you to all of the students who donated to the Common Food Pantry for our food drive in December.  We hope to do it again in the spring.

  • On Friday night, the 4th grade boys basketball team pushed their record to 7 and 2 with a win over St. Ben's by a score of 22 to 17.  Max A. scored 8 points and Zack K. grabbed 10 rebounds.
  • If anyone finds a gray and black North Face jacket, please return it to the main office.  It belongs to a student, Sam E.
  • In basketball news, the 3rd and 4th grade girls went 2 and 1 last week, losing only a close one by one basket.  The Red Team defeated Waters 20-6 with Ava K. scoring 8 points.  The White Team defeated Rogers Park by a score of 6-2.  The leading scorer was Avery G.  The Black Team lost to Lycee by a score of 9-7.
  • In CPS action, the 7th/8th boys beat Jahn 26-18.
  • Over the weekend in the NBL, 5th/6th girls beat Mcpherson 31-11 and the 6th boys beat St. Ben's 33-31.  Tomorrow night the two girls teams travel north to face off against Coonley whose coach happens to be a former Bell student.

  • Thank you to all students who auditioned for the school musical.  It was an exciting process because of the amazing talents that Bell's students have.  Letters will be delivered to classrooms today.
  • In basketball news, the 5th grade boys lost to Sacred Heart on Wednesday by a score of 31-22.  On Thursday, both girls teams lost to Disney school.

  • All ASL classes scheduled for today with interpreters will be cancelled due to illness.
  • Call backs for the school musical continue after school today in the auditorium until 5:30 p.m.
  • Last night our boys teams had to defend home court against Disney.  the 5th/6th team won by a score of 31-14 and the 7th/8th grade team won by a score of 30-22.  On Thursday, the two girls teams will travel to Disney to see if they can duplicate the accomplishments of the girls.
  • Girls on the Run will be back at Bell School this spring.  All girls in 3rd-8th grades are invited.  Please pick up a form from the folder outside of Ms. Abts' classroom, 119, or from the folder in the main office.  Be sure to give it to your parents.  The deadline to register is next Friday, February 1st.

 

 

Tuesday, January 22nd

  • Beauty and the Beast callback auditions continue today for students who received a brown packet.  Please bring all belongings to the auditorium at dismissal.

  • On Saturday, members of the Bell Stealth played in a Youth Chess Foundation Tournament at De La Salle Academy.  Our 3rd/4th team finished in first place.  At the individuals level, second grader Ben M. finished in second place in the K-2 division, 4th grader Alex U. finished in 4th place and Jacob D. finished in 5th place in the 3-4 division.  5th grader Jeremy M. finished in second place in the advanced division.
  • Recapping the basketball action that took place in the Northside Basketball League, the 3rd/4th girls Black team defeated Hawthorne 23-11 with Cori M. scoring 18 points.  The two other 3rd/4th girls teams faced off against each other with Red defeating White behind Ava K.'s 16 points.  The 4th grade girls also defeated Immaculate Conception, 23-12.  In other action: 5th Boys lost to Latin 22-17, 8th boys defeated Daystar 55-21, 5th/6th girls defeated Hawthorne 14-13, 7th boys defeated Blaine 52-15, 6th boys defeated Blaine 35-8, 7th/8th girls defeated St. Clement  30-26.  Tonight the two boys teams are at home hosting CPS games against Disney starting at 4:15 p.m.

  • Congratulations to the Bell 4th grade girls basketball team for their 23-12 victory yesterday over Immaculate Conception School.  Bell was led by Ava K. with 10 points and Cori M. with 4 points.
  • The assemblies for today have been cancelled.  We will notify teachers of the new date when it is determined.
  • All four basketball teams took to the court last night and all four teams emerged victorious.  5th/6th boys beat Audubon 36-28, 5th/6th girls beat Blaine 23-8, 7th/8th boys beat Audubon 21-17, 7th/8th girls beat Blaine 28-4.

Tuesday, January 15th

  • This is the last day of auditions for Beauty and the Beast.   Any student in grades 4-8 may audition today.  You must have permission to stay afterschool.  Please come to the music room at dismissal.
  • Last night the CPS basketball season tipped off with a couple of games here at Bell featuring the boys' teams.  The 5th/6th grade boys beat Coonley 27-3 while the 7th/8th boys lost to Coonley 20-18.  Tonight all four teams take to the court.  The girls teams open their seasons here at home against Blaine while the boys' teams travel to Audubon.

Monday, January 14th

  • ISAT prep classes will begin on Tuesday, January 15th.  No classes will be held on Monday.  Students will receive notes about the classes on Monday.
  • Beauty and The Beast singing and acting auditions are being held today and tomorrow for 7th and 8th graders in the music room after school.
  • Over the weekend, several basketball teams took to the court in action in the Northside Basketball League.  5th/6th girls beat Alcott by a score of 33-7.  The 8th grade boys beat McPherson 40 -18, while the 6th grade boys lost to Hawthorne 28-19.  The 7th grade boys beat Parker 50-28.  Tonight, the 5th/6th grade boys and the 7th/8th grade boys tip off the CPS regular season with a pair of games against Coonley here at Bell.  The first game is scheduled to begin at 4:15.  The members of the 5th/6th grade team should report to the gymnasium suited up no later than 3:30.

  • Reminder that tomorrow is our Red Out.  Be sure to show your school spirit and wear red.

  • Our library circulation system is still undergoing repairs.  Teachers, please have your students keep their books until the system is fixed.
  • In the first game of the regular basketball season, the 5th grade boys tipped off against Alcott.  Everyone contributed to an impressive 35-18 victory.
  • On Tuesday, the Bell 5th/6th girls basketball team won the Peirce Sportsmanship Tournament by going undefeated in the tournament and by beating Hawthorne 36-10 in the championship game.

Wednesday, January 9th

  • 7th and 8th grade students interested in Battle of the Books should come to the library at 12:30 today and see Ms. Wojcik.
  • "Beauty and the Beast" auditions continue today after school in the music room for 6th graders.  Please bring your permission slips and your belongings to the music hall area.

  • Picture Retake Day is today.
  • Yesterday Bell hosted its annual school science fair.  The fair featured over 100 projects that displayed a wealth of time, talent and determination.  All participants should be proud of the efforts that were on display.  Judged to be the top twelve projects were those produced by Arial B., Nizar B., Mikaela B., Isabella C., Shreya D., Isabel D. Anna G., Conor G., Clayton M., Sara R., Luther S., and Harry S.  Unfortunately, Bell is allowed to send only the top four projects on to the network science fair that will be held on January 31st.  Those projects belong to Anna G., Isabel D., Ariel B., and Shreya D.  Congratulations and good luck.

  • Here are your monthly green tips from your Conservation Club:  Make sure you turn off your lights when you are not in the room, keep your thermostat at 68 degrees when you are not home, ask your parents not to keep the car running for too long so at to conserve gas and decrease pollution.  Remember, we all need to live the green life.

  • Last night, seven seventh and eighth grade students (Ellen Kidane, Chloe Lee, Kimaya Locke, Hana Nelson, Kaela Ryan, Allie Sawin, Kenza Walthour) represented Bell at the Fenwick High School Science Competition.  Allie Sawin and Ellen Kidane placed sixteenth and fourteenth respectively, on an individual basis out of a pool of several hundred students.  As a team, the seven girls placed seventh.  Congratulations to all participants for their hard work.

  • Tomorrow, November 7th is the due date for the Bell Walk pledge donations.  In order to receive the cool Bell Walk prizes, your pledges need to be received by Wednesday.  If you haven't already sent in your donations, please make sure you turn them in on Wednesday.  In order to continue the great energy of the Bell Walk, any class that has 95% return of Bell Walk donations will receive an extra 15 minute recess at their teacher's discretion.  So get your pledges in and enjoy an extended recess period.

  • On Saturday, our cross country teams competed in the city championship.  The 5th/6th girls team placed 3rd overall.  The 5th/6th boys team placed 4th overall.  The 7th/8th girls team placed 6th overall.  Clayton Mendez placed 5th for the 7th/8th boys team.  He ran 1.5 miles in 7 minutes and 29 seconds.  Congratulations to all runners on a fantastic season.

  • On Saturday, our cross country teams competed in the North Sectional Qualifying Meet.  Final results show that our 5th/6th girls team placed 4th, our 5th/6th boys team finished 5th and our 7th/8th girls team finished 4th.  All three teams have qualified to compete in the city championship this Saturday at Washington Park.  Clayton Mendez finished third on Saturday and will run in the city championship as well.  Congratulations to all runners.  We are very proud of you!

  • On Saturday, some members of the Bell Stealth participated in the 2012 Illinois All-Grades State Chess Championship, held in West Chicago, Illinois.  Bell student Jeremy Margolin finished in first place in the 5th grade division, and Jeremy and Henry Lokken combined their efforts to give Bell a third place finish in the 5th grade team competition. Congratulations.

  • Basketball tryouts will be conducted this week after school.  5th/6th girls will tryout on Tuesday.  7th/8th girls will tryout on Wednesday.  5th/6th boys will tryout on Thursday and 7th/8th boys will tryout on Friday.  All tryouts will run from 3:30-5:00 p.m.  Participants will have from 3:15 - 3:30 to change.
  • On Saturday, Bell's Cross Country teams competed in the network qualifying meet.  Mateus Jobes placed first and Zak Plumley placed third for the 5th/6th boys team.  Camille Forte placed second and Audrey Shadle placed third for the 5th/6th girls team.  Eva Mazura placed second for the 7th/8th girls team and Clayton Mendez placed first for the 7th/8th boys team.  We are still waiting on final team results.  All runners ran a great race!

  • Please remember that Wednesday, October 17th is Picture Day.  Students, don't forget your Picture Day order forms.  Teachers, please collect order forms in your large classroom envelope.
  • Attention all 7th and 8th grade students:  Are you interested in Student Council?  Don't miss this meeting.  Anyone who is interested in running for Student Council is asked to please meet in Room 313 for the first 5 minutes of lunch today.  The meeting will be short and will explain the process for running for Office.  If you are unable to attend, please see Ms. Presmyk in 313 for details.
  • Here is your weekly "green" tip from the Conservation Club:

Did you know that we all need to conserve water?  Here are three ways you can help:

1. Turn off the water when you brush your teeth.  It saves up to 25 gallons of water a month.

2.  Have your parents fix small drips.  That can save up to 20 gallons of water a day.

3.  Take a short shower.  A shower uses about 20 or more gallons of water each minute.

 

Monday, October 15th

  • Congratulations to both flag football teams on making the playoffs!  7th and 8th practice today at 3:30 and 5th and 6th practice tomorrow at 3:30.
  • The PBIS focus behavior for the week is "One hand on the rail and always walk on the stairs."
  • On Saturday, our cross country teams competed in their first meet of the season.  Audrey Shadle placed 2nd for the 5th/6th girls, with the team placing first.  The 5th/6th boys team placed first along with the 7th/8th girls team.  Eva Mazura placed 2nd and Sloane Kistinger placed 3rd for the 7th/8th girls.  Congratulations to all runners on a great meet and good luck at this Saturday's qualifying network meet.
  • On Saturday, members of the Bell Stealth participated in the Chicago Chess Festival, a tournament held at Rickover Academy.  Schools from the city as well as some suburbs were represented.  The Bell grades K-2 team finished in first place in their division.  Our 5th/6th team finished second in their division.  At the individual level, 5th grader Jeremy Margolin finished in first place, ahead of approximately 60 other players in his division.  5th grader William Scothorn tied for fifth place in his division.  Congratulations.

Tuesday, October 9th

  • The 5th and 6th grade girls' volleyball practice for today has been cancelled.  The 7th and 8th grade girls will still practice as scheduled.
  • Here is your weekly "green" tip from your Conservation Club:  Three tips to stop drips!

1.  Always make sure  your faucet pipes are tight so your sink doesn't drip.

2.  After you take a shower, always make sure it's turned off all the way so you don't waste water or money.

3.  If you're ever watering your garden with a hose or playing in the sprinkler, always remember to turn it off tightly and check for drips.

Remember, we all need to live the green life!

 

Monday, October 8th

  • Our Reach for the Red focus skill for the week is Voices Off.  Remember to respect others by making sure your voices are off as you move through the hallways.  Adults will be looking to give tickets to students demonstrating this behavior.  Keep up the good work and keep reaching for the red!

Thursday, October 4th

  • The 5th and 6th grade Boys Soccer Team played a tough game against Hawthorne last night.  They were led by Mason Peterson and Owen Neal scoring 2 fabulous goals, and Henry Hammonds making several amazing saves.  In the end, they came up short with a 3-2 loss.
  • Bell's Choir has its 1st rehearsal today in the music room at lunch recess.
  • Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade Girls Volleyball Team.  Led by Asia Anderson's 6 points, Bell overcame a 17-14 deficit to defeat Jamieson 19-17 in the first game.  Alyssa Lanzi's 9 points and Siena Pieruccini's 5 points helped Bell win the second game 18-8.  Great job girls!

 

Wednesday, October 3rd

  • The 5th and 6th grade Boys Soccer Team won last night against Blaine School by a score of 6-0.
  • Congratulations to all Bell students who walked to school this morning and played on the turf today for International Walk to School Day.  You joined adults and children across American and in over 50 countries around the world to help our environment and our bodies.

 

 Tuesday, October 2nd

  • All FPS new members should meet Ms. Barron at dismissal by the first floor trophy case.
  • International Walk to School Day is tomorrow, October 3rd.  All students can participate in this event.  Neighborhood students are encouraged to walk to school on this day.  Students who come by bus can participate in activities on the turf with Ms. Graziano after breakfast.  Over fifty countried participate in this international event so come to the turf and enjoy this special day.
  • Congratulations to the Bell 5th and 6th grade Flag Football Team on their 29-0 win over Clinton.  Great team effort.
  • Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade Flag Football team on their 25-6 win over Clinton.  Outstanding defense and special teams play!

 

Monday, October 1st

  • All students who ride the school bus should report to the auditorium at 3:05 p.m.
  • International Walk to School Day is this Wednesday, October 3rd.  All students can participate in this event.  Neighborhood students are encouraged to walk to school on this day.  Students who come by bus can participate in activities on the turf with Ms. Graziano after breakfast.  Over fifty countried participate in this international event so come to the turf and enjoy this special day.

Are you a singer?  Want to join Bell's Choir?

Auditions for all interested singers will take place this week.  Auditions for 5th and 7th graders will be held on Thursday, September 27th, and on September 28th for 6th and 8th graders.

Audition Expectations:

On assigned audition days, students should report to the music room promptly at the start of their lunch recess period.  Students should choose and prepare one of the following songs:

  • Silent Night
  • America (My Country Tis of Thee)
  • America the Beautiful
  • The Star Spangled Banner

Students should also prepare a song of their choosing, to be sung upon request if needed.  Acceptance letters will be distributed by end of the school day on Monday, October 2nd. Questions or concerns can be directed to Mrs. Pepin or Ms. Clancy in the music room (309).

Since the beginning of school, you have all been taught by your teachers about the proper way to act at in all different areas of Bell.  Starting today, all staff members will have red tickets to give to students who show the appropriate behavior.  If you receive a red ticket, be sure to give it to your homeroom teacher.  Your behavior has been excellent and be sure to keep up the great work.
