Please join us! The Bell School Local School Council (LSC) normally meets the second Thursday of every month during the school year at 7 pm in the school library, with some exceptions. These meetings are open to all. Click for meeting dates.
The LSC encourages the participation of teachers, parents, students, and neighbors in the important decisions it makes. There is a time for public comment during each meeting. If you wish to comment, please contact Theresa Martinez, LSC Chair, by noon of the Thursday before the meeting. Each request should include your name and contact information along with the topic.
Every public school in Chicago has a LSC which is charged with three main duties:
to decide how school funds and resources are allocated, to develop and monitor the annual School Improvement Plan, and to evaluate and select the school principal.
The Local School Council consists of 6 parents, 2 teachers, 2 community members and the principal of the school. Council members are elected by members of their peer group on the second semester Report Card Pick-Up Day in April of every even-numbered year. Parent, community, and teacher representatives serve a two-year term beginning July 1 after each election and ending June 30, two years later.

A LSC bulletin board across from the office has the latest information and meeting schedules, minutes of previous meetings including draft minutes of the most recent meeting, agenda for the upcoming meeting, contacts, the list of LSC committees, and other relevant documents. LSC members, minutes and a schedule of upcoming meetings are also available in this section of the website. Please use the menu links to the left for that information.
