Important Dates and Deadlines 2011- 2012

New this year: Online applications will be available for some CPS schools beginning October 1 in addition to paper applications. In order to apply online, parents MUST obtain a pin number from apply.cps.edu NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 8.

The application deadline for all schools is December 16. Students can apply online at apply.cps.edu

The last day Mrs. Beerman will accept paper applications for processing will be December 9th.

Chicago High School for the Arts

The Chicago High School for the Arts is a college-preparatory, pre-professional arts training program. ChiArts offers the following art disciplines: dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts. ChiArts is a Renaissance 2010 Contract School.

ChiArts seeks to offer challenging courses in all subject areas that encourage intellectual curiosity and develop critical thinking skills. Students will be expected to participate in a rigorous program, including five hours of academic classes, three hours of arts training in their major area, and one to four hours of rehearsal/practice per day. The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m.

In order to be eligible for enrollment at ChiArts, students and their families must submit a complete application to ChiArts by December 23, 2011.

AUDITION WORKSHOPS (now called "Backstage Pass"):

ChiArts Backstage Passes are open to any 8th-grade student who wishes to learn more about the audition process. Each workshop is taught by a professional from the Chicago arts community and will help students prepare for auditions. While participation is recommended, students are not required to attend a workshop in order to audition or apply for admission to ChiArts.

All workshops are free, but registration is required. There is no need to sign up for more than one date in a single arts area (Musical theatre students are welcome to sign up for music, dance and theatre workshops). To register online, please submit the form on the ChiArts website: http://chiarts.org/apply/audition_workshops/, or phone: 773-534-9710. A confirmation email and additional information will be sent once your request is received. Submit your information at least 7 days before the workshop date of your choice.

Backstage Pass Dates:
