This winter Ms. Chaudhri and Miss Darnell’s rooms made an effort to be “green” at their holiday parties. Room 206 set up an “evite” for the parents to help contribute supplies. The parents were able to sign up for specific items on the list so there was no excess or waste. Some of the items included a reusable tablecloth (cloth, not plastic), non-Styrofoam plates and cups, and finger foods to minimize paper or plastic packaging. The students brought their own non-breakable cups from home and took them home again. One student brought Crystal Light which was mixed in 2 quart pitchers to minimize individual drink pack waste.
Room 208’s party was
virtually waste-free. Parents brought enough pizza for all followed by
ice cream cones and two-gallon pitchers of beverages. Students used
paper cups for drinks which were then rinsed and stored for future
science experiments. Parents donated plastic plates which were then
washed and stored in the classroom for future use. A parent
contributed cloth napkins for the students to use. The cardboard pizza
boxes were recycled, and there was barely any trash.
All the students were
proud and happy to participate in the effort to make these small but
meaningful changes to help protect our environment.
