The following is the text of a letter that went home to all students at Bell School:
December 2, 2011 Dear Parents of Bell Elementary Students: I want to inform you of an incident that occurred yesterday at Bell Elementary School, where a kindergarten student left the school and walked home unattended. First and foremost, I want to express my sincerest apologies to the student’s parents and CPS officials have communicated our deep regret that this incident occurred, as well as assurances this will never happen again. It goes without saying that students, especially at this young age should not be without adult supervision, outside or inside the school building. We are reviewing and investigating everything that led to this incident to make sure we have proper protocols set in place to ensure this will never occur again. This is my school, and I am incredibly saddened and disappointed that a student was not cared for properly. I will take every resolve to assure you, as parents, that this will never happen again. The safety and security of your children in our school is our utmost priority. Please be assured that we take great pride, not only in teaching, but caring for your children. Again, I express my deepest regret that this occurred. We are grateful this student is safe and hope he returns to school soon. We appreciate your understanding and support as we work through this matter, and we will update you on the results of our investigation and what mitigating actions will be taken as soon as this information is available. Sincerely, Sandra Caudill Principal
